A bit of ambiguity in that subject, as “swashbucklers” could refer either to the films or to the characters. Still, interpret it as you will… Pirates, Robin Hood, Zorro, et al., all count. Captain Blood
Adventures of Robin Hood
The Black Swan (more for Laird Cregar than for Tyrone Power, though Power is fine… Cregar is superb, though, one of the greatest cinematic pirates.) The Man in the Iron Mask ’39 Moonfleet
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
The Count of Monte Cristo ‘34 The Count of Monte Cristo 2002 (excellent film… Why isn’t this one better known?) The Prisoner of Zenda ‘37 The Princess Bride
The Mask of Zorro ‘98 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
I’d love to see that film adaptation Spielberg planned of Michael Crichton’s excellent Pirate Latitudes, but I’m not sure if that’s still in the works… OK, off to you!

Fair point, pippinmaniac, but which ones on the list are your favorites? I’m sure there are some more, too…

The Mask of Zorro is the only one of those that makes my top 60 list.
A few others I like.
Fury At Smuggler's Bay The Hellfire Club The Adventures of Mary Read The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
One I watched the other day Duel at the Rio Grande (1963). The lead was interesting-quite athletic, sort of Errol Flynnish. Afterwards I learned it was his son so he was certainly Flynnish!

Captain Blood The Adventures of Robin Hood The Mark of Zorro The Mask of Zorro The Prisoner of Zenda The Black Swan Prates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
I would like to see "Moonfleet" some day. I also like "Treasure Island" (1950).

CAPTAIN BLOOD is most definitely a favorite. It is the film that made me fall in love with Olivia de Havilland.
THE SEA HAWK is a close second. It is technically speaking better than CAPTAIN BLOOD in almost every respect, but I like the story of BLOOD better.
ANTHONY ADVERSE is also a favorite. It's not a swashbuckler in full, but it does have a sword fight.

I hadn’t even heard of Anthony Adverse, Flynn (and I’ve got a bit of a crush on the lovely Anita Louise); thanks for letting me know! A huge stretch, but I wonder—have you ever heard of a swashbuckler in which the villain hypnotizes the heroine and then throws the hero off a tower, where the hero is rescued by gypsies? Someone was looking for it on the Classic Horror boards; I posted about it in the INTK board here, unfortunately to no avail. I know, a long shot, but it seemed vaguely similar to Anthony Adverse (though it’s not it).

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl Mask of Zorro 98 Legend of Zorro The Golden Voyage of Sinbad The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) 3 Musketeers 2011
I don't know if Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone fits in, but if they do, I'd include them. I liked Kevin Costner's 1991 Robin Hood back then, but I'll have to rewatch to see if the film holds up.

Cary Elwes as Westley/Dread Pirate Roberts in The Princess Bride (1987). Geena Davis as Morgan Adams in Cutthroat Island (1995). Antonio Banderas as Alejandro Murrieta/Zorro in The Mask of Zorro (1998). Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. As far as just movies featuring swashbucklers, I was always rather fond of the animated version of Robin Hood (1973). And I also liked... The Three Musketeers (1993) The Man in the Iron Mask (1998). I've probably forgotten some, but those^ are the ones which immediately spring to mind.

With that many definitive keywords, though, it seems like the field of films could be narrowed considerably using Imdb's keyword search. I gather nothing panned out. As for Anthony Adverse, it's not a great film overall, but I do think many of the parts are good. They just don't all work together. I know it because I've studied the score. Big Korngold fan here.

That’s OK, no worries, Flynn. I mean, you’d think, yes, with all the keywords… That’s what’s bugging me so much about it. Of course, the guy could have conflated two movies—in fact, he probably did—but I thought I’d ask anyway.

I'm very surprised to see the lack of SEA HAWK mentions. If you're reading this and haven't seen it, you really should. I think it's fair to say that it is the gold standard for a classic swashbuckler, that and Flynn's ROBIN HOOD. I showed the sword fight to a class a few years ago, and they were blown away at how intense it was compared to the sword fights in the recent PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN films, which I primarily surmised was due to longer takes in SEA HAWK allowing the audience to see more of the action, but who knows.

Princess Bride for me with assorted Robin Hoods lead by Flynn and the Fox and followed by Costner. I notice another Sleuth Ringing Phone search cracking its eggshell, Nalkarj : a swashbuckler in which the villain hypnotizes the heroine and then throws the hero off a tower, where the hero is rescued by gypsies
yay !

No, no, I won’t do it, BATouttaheck ! In all seriousness, the guy at the CHFB swears that he saw it on TCM about ten years ago, and I “talked” to a guy who has all the TCM Now Playing guides except for ’98-’99—and he couldn’t find it, so (unless it played only once in that gap) I don’t think it exists. If it does, I’d love to let him know, though! I tried a usually excellent search engine, whatismymovie.com, to no avail.
