“I was thinking maybe if it does bad, Disney will be smarter with how they do these future things.”
ha how naive. Disney is not going to heed any public sentiments. They are on a social engineering mission.
It's interesting though-because the criticisms that they highlight all relate to public expectations for a traditional kind of story that is not being met. They expect the hero to be strong, brave, they expect an old Luke to be a sage figure, not a loser, and they do not want childish elements added for comedic or frivolous reasons. I don't think people would have objected to the Ewoks if they were not made so teddy bear-like.

The question is, what box office take will make it a loser? The Butthurt Brigade has been calling TLJ a "flop" since it came out, and it was the highest-grossing movie of 2017. My prediction with Solo is that it will make $800-$900 million. If it does so, it will still be profitable, but you can bet that people will be like, "Ohamahgurd!!! It didn't make a billion dollars! They're totally gonna fire Kathleen Kennedy!!!! Lucasfilm is a panic right now!!!"

At the end of the day, if people want to see it they'll see it.
