Jude Law in Road to Perdition (2002)p.s. it's a crime that movie is not in the IMDb Top 250. Why do people act like as if that list matters when it doesn't?

WarrenPeaceYour basically right, but it's more of the thought of it I guess. but I guess just about every site/system online probably has it's flaws as I am willing to bet a fair portion of the IMDb Top 250 are either unknown or somewhat unknown amongst a good portion of the general public. like some of those movies in the IMDb Top 250 are probably not as liked as the site makes them out to be.

If you go up to folks and ask them, "Which have you heard of? IMDb movie ratings or Rotten Tomatoes?" Chances are 10 out 10 will answer with RT. I'd be surprised if you ever got one who has even heard of the IMDb site let alone the ratings. The ONLY ones the IMDb ratings matter are to those fan boys and girls of the site and let's be real, it isn't all that many. Like I was in Barnes and Noble yesterday in the DVD section where they were selling movie titles based on the AFI list. Was it IMDb? No because that one is nothing.

That's a bit disingenuous since Rotten Tomatoes is known primarily for their critic reviews just ike IMDB is known primarily for their movie database. I'm not sure I know anyone who doesn't visit imdb who likes movies. I'm not sure which one is more popular but I can only assume that both are very well known for movie goers Again, neither of them are particularly important for user scores and especially if all it is is the score. Local word of mouth is more important to me. If I want to hear what normal people have to say, I'm certainly not going to trust the guy who gives a one star review to Last Jedi a few days before it comes out unless they're a friend of mine and even then I'll probably make fun of them before taking their word for it.

IMDb is like the inside joke of an office. RT is the joke told on the late night talk show that makes the rounds across America in offices everywhere the next day. Or the AFI. It's their list that gets talked about while the IMDb one doesn't even get one sentence on page 12 of the local paper at the bottom.

Everyone I know who likes movies know what the IMDb score is, because the website comes at the top whenever you google search a movie. For the record, IMDb has a much larger number of regular voters than any other movie websites. There is also a difference between critic ratings and user ratings.
