I haven't seen MST3K since my local cable company at the time (Adelphia) decided to put it on a station that wasn't available in my area. I had to catch up on the last few seasons via DVD.
I'm excited for the reboot/continuation.

The new season has been getting good reviews so far. Kickstarter backers got to see them first, as promised. The season will officially debut Friday on Netflix.

Watching the new eps now, the jokes come non-stop but IMO not as good as the early eps. Still amazing tho and I'm thankful its back but, again IMO, I think Rifftrax is now superior.

Give them some time to settle in. It's all good. Hope so, cause at the moment it seems like they are slinging a load of crap hoping something sticks. The older eps were more like a sniper carefully lining up his shot first. Don't get me wrong I'm on ep 9 now and plan on watching all today but honestly out of the first 8 I've only really liked ep 8. The Hercules one is hilarious

I wasn't impressed how the first episode opened. The original was able to set up the premise with the opening song. It also felt too polished. Part of the charm of the original was that it looked like it was filmed in someone's basement.
On the plus, I felt the commentary wasn't bad. I'll probably continue to watch unless it takes a turn in later episodes.

I've only seen the first of the new episodes (Reptilicus) and I thought it was great. It was certainly in the same league with the original series. I'm so glad MST3K is back.

I watched the feature movie--I was amused but I prefer watching movies without a commentary. The original crew told a great anecdote (credit them for sharing it publicly) where they encountered Kurt Vonnegut, asking him to join them for dinner. He inquired what they did and when they told him he replied that "even bad filmmakers deserve respect for the hard work they put into making movies" and refused their invitation.
Honestly, how can we poke fun at a 50 year old low budget movie when Michael Bay and Kurtzman & Orci are paid millions?
The ridicule should be directed at modern studio films.

I agree, but the butthurt in Hollywood would probably shut the whole show down. Don't worry, in 50 years those films will make the show.

You're just not a fan due to your political correctness.

'The guy behind me munching Sour Patch Kids and wearing an ironic Hawaiian shirt kept up the chuckles for 91 minutes, long after I began to beseech Zeus to throw a non-styrofoam boulder at him. His stubborn laughter was an advertisement for his own superiority, like it's heroic to refuse to be “suckered” by a fake rock that's obviously fake. But there's nothing triumphant about being too cool to dream.' www.laweekly.com/film/stop-laughing-at-old-movies-you-anding-hipsters-5523746

Setting this to classical music does not make it ballet:

It's not really "commentary" that they are adding... it's "riffing". As they are known to make fun of their own production values.. They really aren't doing that.

Riffing and commentary what is the difference? They are commenting on the film as it plays (though doing so between dialogue is considerate at least).

I started watching the new season. I had to get used to the new guys, especially the new Servo. I don't like him flying through the theater. Sometimes I feel the jokes come too quick in succession. Anyway, I still think its funny.

I consider commenting to be a blanket term for all kinds of "comments" on a subject. They can humorous or not. In this case however I realize it would be entirely humor-intended comments.
For some reason I associate riffing with music and also with raffs (riffraff). Not to be confused with riffrafting where you make humorous comments as you are rafting down a river.

Anyway, you don't care for the commentary while trying to watch a movie, am I right? It's okay, I've known people who don't like the show for that reason. Not everybody can adjust and I don't mean that in a derogatory way.
