A couple questions. Do you buy ground pepper like this? Or whole pepper like this and grind it in a pepper grinder? If you get whole peppercorns is it the regular black ones like this? Or do you get whole peppercorn melange like this? Last question. What brand of pepper do you buy?

Do you know if grocery stores sell this or do you have to order them on line?

Sandman That one's only at Costco, but just look for Tellicherry peppercorns. Pricier, but good.

...I generally buy an item called "pepper medley" which is a combination of different types of ground peppers mixed together...

My pepper grinder looks like this: (NOTE: I'm working on the assumption that the bizarre combination of letters/numbers/symbols, below, will translate to a picture of a pepper grinder). www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BHK6Z6L/ref=s9_acsd_newrz_hd_bw_b14VND_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_r=T2H3BRS60RBDR8RZAWK3&pf_rd_r=T2H3BRS60RBDR8RZAWK3&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=067a5d1d-4b7c-46dc-ba44-f677304a72d7&pf_rd_p=067a5d1d-4b7c-46dc-ba44-f677304a72d7&pf_rd_i=15850251
Mine measures 11", but who's to quibble?
I buy both black peppercorns, and mixed peppercorns, at Costco. When I fill the mill, I use some "corns" from each jar.
Until recently, I bought "ground" white pepper. I don't use it often, and I do use it sparingly. When I have to buy it, again, I'm going to look for one of the small commercial bottles, with a grinding mechanism on the top.

The grinding bottles are refillable. Had a TJ's Himalayan Salt grinder. Now it has white peppercorns.
