What's with The Karate Kid remake hate? That movie is way too different from the original to even be considered a remake. The characters are different, the material arts is different, and the setting is different. And lets not pretend the first Karate Kid is all that original. Because that movie is like Rocky for kids. Yup, I said it. People who hate on The Karate Kid remake need to remove their nostalgic goggles off.

Even as a standalone film it is terrible. Smith's kid is just obnoxious. I don't want to see him win.

They never should have remade "Poltergeist." It was a waste of time to think you could better the original (directed by S.S. for the most part) or match the aura of a generation having been scared by it. It is a masterful film, no matter how you look at it. One of the best made horror films. And existed on a level not weighed down by a Poe-esque melancholy. Upbeat Middle America Chiller. The Devil made me do it! It was refreshing and witty and made horror fun and moving.

Annie Ah yes Will Smith's blackening of Hollywood, which he also did to the Karate Kid.

Annie There are three movie versions of Annie. One from 1982, one from 1999, and one from 2014, all individual adaptations of a stage play from 1977. They aren't remakes of each other. There's a difference between a remake of a movie, and an adaptation of a story that was already adapted before. From that logic, all Scrooge movies would be considered remakes of each other. Having analyzed the three movies, I believe the 1999 version to be the best (though it may be due to nostalgia due to the fact that it's the one I grew up with, plus the fact that it's the closest to the stage play, which doesn't necessarily mean its a better movie), but I really enjoyed all three movie versions, and that's coming from somebody whose favorite musical has been Annie since age eight.

They changed Nick Fury, and everybody liked him, but then they change other iconic characters, and everybody hates it. I just don't get it. Can someone brainy please explain?

So far the common denominator seems to be Will Smith. I don't like it when they change the race or gender of characters, to me it's just a cheap stunt.

Whenever the change in race is made there is but two questions... is it justified? Does it improve the character? When it comes to Nick Fury the Marvel Ultimate Universe Nick Fury Jr was based on Samuel L Jackson, so much so that when his lawyers called Marvel Comics about likeness rights they said that if Nick Fury ever appeared in a movie they would like Jackson to play him. In that case it was necessary and the character improved a lot being a Bad Mother Fucker. Then you have Annie... did we need an Annie reboot? Was the movie made solely to race-switch the character? Yes. Did it improve it? Not... one... bit. Another disastrous one was Michael B Jordan as Johnny Storm in the ill-faited FANT4STIC, the whole purpose of the race-bend was because MJB wanted to play the character, the actor was more important than the character in the mind of Josh Trank and FOX... and boy, did it suck.

Like Carrie Ann Moss in the Marvel Netflix series. The Original character was a guy, but she is such an evil... that it was worth it.

I think they would totally stuff up Romancing the Stone as well. They would turn it into an Indiana Jones style action adventure which it does at times resemble but isn't really the whole point of the film. Not to mention they would make the female lead Tomb Raider.

Any of John Carpenter's movies.
And no, redressing your remake as a "prequel" does not help (looking at you, The Thing).

It really does seem like people pick and choose their outrage over a race-switch. I don't recall anyone saying a single word when Laurence Fishburne was cast as Jack Crawford or Perry White.
