What, a mook who can't aim? The Stomrtroopers have always been jokes in SW. This idea he should be some emotionless warrior instead of someone with a personality is a joker. They've never been jokes. Just soldiers with occasionally bad aim.
They've certainly never been stone cold badasses.
See, this is what I mean by no-win scenario.
If Finn HAD been some Elite Force Order Soldier who put all the Resistance Fighters to shame, all the complaints about Rey would be about him too with the "They were too scared of making a Black Guy look less than perfect!"

You cannot trick anybody but yourself.
Nobody wants a Black Stu Elite Soldier. That would be the other extreme. We need to see someone moderately competent dealing with his decision, training and character. Who needs not to be saved by a girl all the time while screaming like one (Finn is a Stormtrooper not Thor Fragglerock), who can handle turrets and guns, who knows a bit about flying and understands languages and droids, and who does not look in amazment all the timeat how great his counterpart are.
- Someone who does not crawl on the floor too stupid to identify a tool being yelled at NO NO NO NO NOOO with an attrocious posh Brit accent - Who is not electrocuted and called a thief and drinks with animals - Who climbs like an demented ape on Mary Sue's head to get a better view point - Who does not run away like a coward and who shoots on his comerades crying yeeeeeeeaaaaah did you seee that. - Who does not make carricature comments like Droid Please - Who is not defeated by a random Stormtrooper - Wo is not crying Reeeeeeeeeey and got a boyfriend, cute boyfriend - Wo does not throw away every gun when he need it - Wo does not turn out the Space Janitor - Who is not the butt of every joke in the movie while shown to be incopetent - thats not how the Force works

Then the argument that Finn should be some badass warrior tougher than any Resistance fighter shouldn't be brought up. The rest of your post is basically "He's not perfect, so I hate him". They were trying to avoid a Han Solo situation wherein someone who ISN'T the protagonist ends up being the far more interesting character (like Han with Luke).
You also need to get over your disgust with the hero not always being some stoic who never emotes.

That's not what Tristan's Journal is saying at all. Like he said, you deal in absolutes, false equivalences, and 2 dimensional conclusions. What he said was (like I said), Stormtroopers are not human versions of Jar Jar Binks. They are not Disney channel stooges who act like this... There's no justification for it in Star Wars. If you think that kind of crap belongs in SW (let alone a Stormtrooper) then maybe you don't belong in the fanbase. Name another Stormtrooper in SW history who ever acted like that. Give me an example. Has any Clonetrooper ever acted like that? Has any OT Stormtrooper ever acted like that? Have any other ST Stormtroopers acted like that? Have any Rebel soldiers of the OT acted like that? Have any Resistance soldiers acted like that? (And before the opening scene of TLJ where Hux became the butt of Disney humor joke, did any First Order officer act like that?)... The answer to all of those questions is "NO". And that proves my point! Go on over to the Disney fanbase where you belong.

Seeing how none of them HAVE any character, can't say yes or no.
But given all the Hell Rey gets for not being some wimp, having Finn be some stoic badass wouldn't do his character any favors. It would just be ANOTHER sign of how unpleasable the fandom is.
In fact, here there is no fandom. There is Hatedom.

What's interesting is that fans are ripping Rian Johnson for making Rey's parents nobodies. But when Abrams was pressured about who Rey's parents were right after TFA's release he said they were nobodies. When Daisy Ridley was asked about it she said according to JJ their identity was not significant. All Rian Johnson did was follow the storyline that Abrams would've written for Rey's parents anyway.

Because them saying it outside the movie doesn't make it canon to them. Once it was cemented by the movie then it became real.
