I just started reading The Halloween Host by S.M. Barrett, its a fun read for the season, its Like Dicken's The Christmas Carol but instead Arthur Brim (the "Scroogelike character) is visited by otherworldly members of the October Senate. This is a book for people who love Halloween, like me. I will probably finish it tonight or tomorrow morning. nice.

Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi. This is the book on which the movie Goodfellas is based. I recently got back into reading books after binge-watching Boardwalk Empire. You would think I'd be sick of organized crime at this point, but no. It's a fascinating subject to look at from the outside, though no matter how many times it's explained, I can't understand why anyone would willingly participate in / adopt that lifestyle.

I watched both the 1969 "Che" and the 2008 "Che" so decided to read one of his books:

Putting my re-read of Sironia, Texas on hold to read the Long and Faraway Gone by Lou Berney.
Update: Really good book. I recommend it if you're into mystery-crime stuff.

Heart-Shaped Box by Nirvan-- I mean, Joe Hill. A man buys a heart-shaped box with a mean ghost inside of it.

The Day of the Jackal
Rodin interrupted. ‘Well if that is all, I don’t think we need detain our guest any longer. Oh . . . there is one last point. Your name. If you wish to remain anonymous you should have a code-name. Do you have any ideas?’ The Englishman thought for a moment. ‘Since we have been speaking of hunting, what about the Jackal? Will that do?’ Rodin nodded. ‘Yes, that will do fine. In fact I think I like it.

The latest Lee Child "Jack reacher". Truly awful garbage but addictive. You feel dirty after reading it.

Cherie Blair's autobiography entitled 'Speaking For Myself' which nicely combines my two interests on these Boards. Politics and Religion as she is a Catholic liberal ex-PM of Britains's wife. (sadly not much about Food and Drink)
There is some interesting stuff about other heads of State , their wives and the Royal family, and how this woman managed to be a PM's wife, a top barrister and a mother to 4 kids, whilst trying to maintain some kind of 'personhood' ( as she was also a feminist).

I like that phrase ‘ex-PM of Britain’s wife’! Don’t change it!
