Pretty fascinating stuff, the first two dynasties of Ancient Egypt. I'm sure some of the information is out of date, but Emery lays it out the information for the layman as well as the scholar. Nice drawings included within the text as well.

Joe Hillβs NOS4A2 (2013). Hill is Stephen Kingβs son and writes extremely similarly to his father, so much so that an uncharitable reviewer may call this an It knock-off (monster goes after child; when child gets older, monster comes back). That said, Hill has an energy all his own, and despite the stylistic similarities heβs not the same writer as his father. Thatβs both for good and ill. Heβll turn in a great phrase like βthe light came at a low slant through the oaks across the street, gold and green, and how she loved that light,β but even though Iβm only ~170 pages into this 700 pg. tome (long books, now thatβs a King family tradition), I havenβt read anything yet to compare with the characterization and well-written scares of the first 100 or so pages of The Shining. Still, there are about 600 pages left, so maybe that will change. That said, this is good enough that Iβm interested in reading more Hill. Will chime in when I finish.

Continuing on my Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Mesopotamian education I am plunging ahead with another 50+ year old book. Extremely fascinating, it puts you in the mindset of the ancients and how they viewed themselves and their world around them. It takes several rereading of sentences because it's very deep and technical but fascinating.

Unfortunately my husband volunteered me to read a novel that a co worker wrote, I'm struggling through it. It might be a good book but its about drug culture which I am not interested in and know very little. I told my husband to never volunteer me again, just because I like to read doesn't mean I 'll read anything. The co worker probably will have it published by a vanity press, WKD had a friend that wrote and published through the vanity press years ago and I had to read it and it wasn't very good. Amazon will sell these books, of course I think Amazon will sell anything. I do use Amazon because of the convenience, I'm old and no longer want to travel miles and miles to buy things. Next week I should get my new Elly Griffths Ruth Galloway book and M C Beaton's new Hamish Macbeth book from Amazon UK so I have that to look forward too. For fans of Shirley Rousseau Murphy's Joe Grey series, there will be no more. She answered an email I sent and said due to age (90) and health issues, there will be no more books.
