(.....sigh....)
Last year I swore I wasn't going to watch Legends this year, and I honestly don't know why I did anyway. Apathy, I guess...
God damn this episode sucked. Starting with Rip's sacrifice; assuming it was a sacrifice. When there's no body, it's hard to pretend like they couldn't bring him back somehow - some sort of temporal displacement or something.
It seemed like they were framing it as final, with him saying goodbye to Gideon, and all the flashbacks; yet it packed any sense of finality or passion. I think I'm mostly annoyed if it is the end of Rip that they pissed away his character the way they did. And while he was mourned a little, he didn't seem to get the full respect for his sacrifice as he deserved.
And of course the act was undermined by the fact that it had no consequential effect on Mullus; he didn't seem to be any weaker for it later, and since the Waverider used their other time drive to escape to a time that was supposed to be a temporal blind spot, why did Rip have to do anything? And if he's a "time demon", how is a concept of time for them to buy, that they can hide out in the temporal zone before going to the old west? A temporal demon should not have such a linear existence.
For that matter, it seemed even more dumb that Ray could travel back with Damien to just before she transformed. Should there be a distinction like that, before and after time fractured enough for Mullus to break free, when it's caused by changes to time itself? And weren't they hinting at Nora already being too far gone at that point anyway? Why not go back to before she was possessed then, or before Mullus' control was so strong?
Kind of hard to care about Damien's sacrifice given all he's done, let alone the level insincerity used for everything else about him and his concerns. You can't have a noble sacrifice and be campy, the two just don't go together.
How do you have totems like earth, fire, wind, water and essentially heart and reference Voltron, but not Captain fucking Planet? Or, you know, this?
As annoying as Nate is, I got to hand it to him for his Care Bear Stare comment.
It was stupid to have Ava bring the others just to give the "legends" a pep talk. It was nice seeing Jax, but what was the point of jumping forward to a future version of him, just to make him a dad? Obviously the show wouldn't kill him like that, but from the perspective of the show, Ava is bringing this non-powered human into a potential war zone where he could easily be killed, leaving behind his newborn and wife.
Of course, with Kid Flash around, Jax was fine - but then the battle should over as it start before it started given hidspeed
I could have just as easily pretended episodes like "Helen Hunt" never happened. And my God, I kind of forgot he episode with Leif Erikson and his sister was this season... This season was too long.
Why does Zari need to fawn over Jonah like a school girl? Why does Mick continue to use his fire gun when he has the totem? Is this really the best time to ask Sara if she meant it when she said she loved you, Ava?
Seriously, they conjured a giant fuck Beebo to fight Mullus? That they were inside of...? I kind of expected them to create some sort of idealized version of Rip.
Why have Mick give up his fire totem? Why have Gar y dress as Constantine?
