It's a really good underrated film. I enjoyed it mostly because of Peter O'Toole's performance in which he channeled David Lean and Barbara Hershey.

Good film, solid performances and a couple memorable set-pieces, however I thought it kinda dragged at times. Mainly surrounding the uninteresting romance subplot.

Impressive, enjoyable and strange with a glorious performance by Peter O'Toole. Unfortunately the protagonist of the film is not O'Toole but Steve Railsback, who is utterly dreadful... but he is the only major debit. Well worth taking a look. 7/10

Interesting premise and quite original. It's not great, but very very good. Originality is something that far too often is sorely lacking.

A good movie, though not for all tastes. For some it may take a few viewings to really appreciate it. But it was an interesting "movie within a movie" concept and the acting was superb all around.

Neither did I until O'Toole received one of his many Oscar nominations. Saw it a few years later on the TV. From time to time I've wondered if this film didn't inspire a TV series called The Fall Guy....but then again I've also wondered is a Japanese horror film about seven shipwrecked survivors on a Pacific island didn't inspire a TV series called Gilligan's Island.
