I have liked , gta III through san andreas. I just don't think I would like any of the more modern ones, I don't care for newer games at all, lol.

My fantasy teaser for a new GTA game would be picture this: Plane slowly taxiing, taking off from Hong Kong Int'l airport, slowly like it's Flight Simulator styles. Flying clips over the Pacific. Lands in Los Angeles, still deliberate & boring like Fight Simulator. Out walks deplaning Tommy Vercetti, pulls his sunglasses down & winks. Cut to black. GTA World. The entire f'n planet is the sandbox.

Mafia series (on PC) wipes the floor with the overrated GTA series if you ask me. for people who like to progress through the games, Mafia is easily superior as just randomly goofing off, which seems to be what many like in GTA series, gets old quickly. because at the end of the day I replay the Mafia games from time-to-time unlike the GTA games where they are decent enough to play once but you have no desire to replay those. the characters in the Mafia series are just more interesting than what you got in GTA. I consider Mafia (2002) (on PC), which I first played when it was new in Aug 2002, to be a masterpiece and that's a word I rarely put on things. the 2nd game, while not as good as the first game, is still one of the best games I have played and the 3rd game, while not as good as the first two overall, is easily better than it gets credit for. but basically the first game gives me a solid emotional response that you just don't experience with video games and need quality movies to achieve. in fact, I plan on replaying Mafia/Mafia II before this year is over or not much into next year at the latest. also, I like how there is some nostalgia in Mafia II in relation to the first game and there is a character etc in Mafia II that appears in Mafia III. another little but solid detail in the first Mafia game which further ads to it's greatness is that weapon reloading is more realistic in the sense if you reload after firing one shot you will lose the remaining ammo in the gun instead of like your typical modern shooter where it will just take one bullet from your reserves to fill the gun. basically it forces you to be more strategic with ammo reloads otherwise if your used to reloading often you could be out of ammo fast.

GTA V online kept me busy for about a year straight. Good times there.
GTA 3 or Vice City was prob my favorite single player.

Kind of...
More looking forward to RDR2 though.
I don't use cell phones IRL, so I didn't like the fact that my character(s) needed to use them in GTAV.

I’m a big fan of westerns. Me too. It's going to kick ass. I hope you'll be able to drag people behind horses. Did you watch 'Godless' on Netflix? It was good.

I started it and then got into Altered Carbon, so I stopped. I should go back to it.

Loved GTA 1 and 2. Bought a Dreamcast for 2 specifically. Number 3 blew my mind...I don't think its possible for younger gamers to realize what a mindfuck it was to play GTA III for the first time. Almost like playing Ocarina of Time or Half Life. It was a complete game changer. Vice City and San Andreas were both great. Unfortunately life has gotten in the way of me playing GTA IV and V, so I can't comment on them.

The sandbox level of freedom is a given nowadays in many games but at that time, and especially with those graphics, it was brand spanking new.

Yes. Love them and in general, I love games in that vein. For example, I love the Saints Row games, too, as well as Red Dead Redemption, the second Mafia game, etc. I love massive, open-world, third-person games, especially when they have a sense of humor/absurdity. It's best if they have a lot of variety and a lot entertaining and unexpected stuff that happens when you're just screwing around, just exploring, experimenting, etc.

The sandbox level of freedom is a given nowadays in many games but at that time, and especially with those graphics, it was brand spanking new. That was a pretty crazy period for games. If I recall correctly, both Majora's Mask and Metal Gear Solid II were released alongside GTA III, meaning it played third fiddle to those two more established franchises. While both of those are great games (Majora's Mask in particular is my favorite Zelda game), GTA III consumed WAY more of my time than either of those. It was just so engaging. Vice City, San Andreas, and the later games (I assume) are objectively better because Rockstar was able to fine tune their sandbox recipe, but those first two-three months of GTA III are probably the most enjoyable gaming sessions of my life. The only thing that comes close is TF2
