1997 was not a good year for comic book movies. It gave us the trifecta of terrible: Steel, Spawn, and Batman and Robin. It's amazing the genre recovered at all.

It was a great year for music, TV shows and other genres of movies in my opinion and it was also a great year for independent comic books and 'Fathom' was the biggest selling comic book of 1997 but the comic book movies that were coming out that year were very disappointing. 'Spawn' should have been a lot better. It was one of the most popular comic book series when the movie came out and I remember a lot of people were looking forward to seeing it but it was watered down and awful and I think the failure of the movie also lead to the comic book series losing a lot of sales but the animated series was a lot better.

Well it took over 20 years but it looks like we're finally getting the Spawn movie we want.
Still haven't seen the animated series but I have nothing but good things about it.

Hopefully it doesn't disappoint this time especially with talk of Image Comics planning on launching their own shared movie universe with Witchblade, The Darkness, Savage Dragon, The Wicked + The Divine’, Darkchylde, Invincible, Paper Girls if the movie makes 100 million at the box office. There is a heck of a lot of Image Comics titles I would love to see on the big screen and one of the great things about Image Comics is the diversity of their genres which could get a lot of fans outside of the regular superhero audience going to see them. The original plan for 'Spawn' before was for it to have multiple movies like 'The Crow' but the failure of the first one stopped it from happening.

Anything to get away from those cheesy costumes they are wearing in the movies and TV shows. How 'bout we get some blood and guts in here and make this shit awesome? Are they going to make more movies like The Crow? I gotta hand it to them. The Crow looked like a somebody that was capable of causing some damage. Heroes like Spiderman and The Flash don't look like they couldn't hurt a flee. If I saw somebody dressed like them I would be lmfao so hard.

There are far too many light superhero movies and not enough Horror superhero movies and the last time we even got a Horror superhero movie was 'Blade Trinity.' It looks like the remake of 'The Crow' won't be going through now but the 'Razor' movie is and they have announced the main star of 'Razor' is Emma Dumont and they are looking to make a whole franchise of 'Razor' movies along with spinoffs which there are no shortage of with 'Razor' since a lot of other characters that started out in 'Razor' went on to have their own series. 'Razor' will make the first time we have had a female Horror superhero movie and is very dark and has lots of blood and guts in it.

And they are awesome too with Cassie Hack being the best in my opinion. If they could get the 'Hack/Slash' movie sorted out it could be one of the best Slasher movies we have had in years.

WTF? Vlad is real too? You told me Cassie was based on a real person but you didn't say Vlad was real too. That is one big dude.

Well, that is just an actor in the picture there and he could be standing on a box as cjdull76 and I don't think Vlad was real and he was just a character based loosely on Jason Vorhees Tim Seeley created to go with Cassie Hack. Cassie Hack was based on a real person Tim Seeley went to college with and he has spoken about her in interviews and everything from Cassie's appearance, her fashion sense, her personality and some of the lines she says were based on that woman.

I liked Spawn,,,I was 10 years old when I first saw it but I liked it, my uncle on the other hand was in his 30's and he was adamant it was the greatest film he ever saw, hence why he showed it to his 11 year old nephews and his 8 year old daughter when we were meant to be going to see Mulan for her birthday

Don't feel bad Dazz. After re-watching the 'Spawn' movie I don't think it is as bad as some other comic book movies we have had over the years but it was just disappointing much like 'Hulk' and 'Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice' but even more so 'cause unlike Spawn we had popular adaptions of Batman, Superman and The Incredible Hulk on screen before and we never had Spawn and Spawn was one of the most popular comic book series of the 90s and a lot of fans were looking forward to it. I remember a lot of my friends were saying it was going to be the most violent and bloodiest superhero ever made and blow the censors through the roofs and then it came out and it was nowhere near as violent and dark as everybody thought it was going to be. It wasn't as bad as the 'Faust: Love of the Damned' movie which should have been the movie that blew the censors through the roof. The 'Faust' comic books took violence to another level and they had tons of blood, guts, gore, sex and nudity in them and there were people who couldn't read them 'cause they made them vomit and then the movie came out and it wasn't even as violent or graphic as 'Hellraiser' but back to my point, the 'Spawn' movie was very watered down and should have been more violent. People wanted blood and guts and got something that wasn't any darker than the 'Batman' movies.

... but it had fart jokes and John Leguizamo in a fat suit...WHERES THE RESPECT!!! Hehehe yeah kind of funny when after the film came out we got the animated show and the animated show puts the film to shame, which was crazy seeing and realising holly shit this is how far they can push shit in animation? That is what kept me from dismissing cartoons as I started into my teens which led me to till this day love cartoons & anime, and loving how even kids cartoons can be dark, and silly and filthy and just awesome all around, where as a lot of my family and friends still just look at stuff like and go eh they are cartoons, so their for for kids right? which thank god I cane sometimes talk to them and talk some sense into them, or else my cousin would have taken his then 5, 8 and 10 year old kids to go see Sausage Party because he didn't think it was any different than Toy Story but with food

It did have John Leguizamo in it. Luigi Mario. I am one of the few people who liked the ‘Super Mario Bros’ movies and it was far from being perfect and I can see why a lot of Mario fans didn’t like it but I thought the movie was funny and I liked Samantha Mathis. The 1990s had some great movies but they also had a lot of bad ones like that one people forget about and I find some of those movies are still entertaining to watch and didn’t mind them when they first came out. As awful as ‘Batman & Robin’ was and nearly destroyed the movie franchise I can still sit through that and enjoy some parts of it and I kinda feel the same about the ‘Spawn’ movie and the problem with the ‘Spawn’ movie was it had so many fans looking forward to it and was a big letdown.
It was funny how the animated show ended up being so much better than the Live Action movie and I think part of that was ‘cause the Live Action movie was poorly received and it pushed the writers to make it so much better and give fans what they wanted to see. It is surprising what animation can do and some animated shows can be very dark and violent but it was comic books that opened my eyes to that first and before the 90s I thought comic books were only made for kids and were about super heroes and Comedy characters like Garfield but then I started reading some of the series my friends were into at the time and they were very dark, violent, had blood and gore, swearing, sex and nudity and I had no idea comic books could have things like that at the time and was very surprised back then and many of them had female leads.
There is a belief comic books are only made for children just like the one for cartoons and then there also people who think all comic books are light, happy, and colourful which is far from true and lot of comic books go further with violence, blood and gore than any movies or shows have ever gone and the sex scenes and they don’t hold back with the sex scenes and are pornographic. if the ‘Razor’ isn't watered down like Rob Cohen has said it won't be it is going to be a blood bath and will make 'Logan' look like a children's movie. We will have heads and arms going everywhere with blood oozing out and penises being chopped off and Nicole having lesbian orgies.

Razor sounds kinda messed up. I like it! Yes. It is. 'Razor' is very dark and twisted and it goes places movies have never gone before with a female character and a superhero who loves killing villains and has no remorse for it. The people who are complaining about Carol Danvers not smiling in the 'Captain Marvel' movie will get their smiling alright except it will be when she is covering her face with people's blood which she sees as therapeutic and makes her feel alive.

Yeah Razor sounds kinda like the property Hollywood would avoid or water down. Because they want to reach that PG-13 rating so they can get as many butts in the seats as possible.
Television would love it though.

Television would love it though. The problem with TV is they would cut it down too much too whereas if they make it a film they could go for a hard R rating or even an X rating which Rob said wasn't out of the question and the great thing about 'Razor' is it has something going for it that a lot of other female superhero movies haven't and that is studios that believe it will be successful and they have already signed it up to be a franchise and have a spinoff of 'Strike' (Razor's sister) in development and we might also get spinoffs of Shi and Poizon who also spun off 'Razor.' 'Shi' was the biggest spinoff to come from 'Razor' and a number of other series spunoff Shi later including 'Witchblade' and Sara's very first appearance in a comic book series was in a 'Shi/ Cyblade' spinoff. I think Razor can win a lot of fans of 'The Crow' over 'cause it is similar but more violent and 'Razor' goes further with the Horror elements and has a lot of different monsters and not just human criminals and she become a vampire and werewolf at various times in the comic books.

Because Steel is an awesome character? But I think it had to do with Shaq being a huge Superman fan and wanting to do a superhero film.
