It wouldn't actually be a DC film, just a film that's source has also been in comics.

IF... and I say IF... this is true... it's a little disappointing.
Of all the DC properties they could get Steven Spielberg to direct they get him for Blackhawk? A property barely anyone knows about and absolutely no one cares about? Is ANYONE clamoring for a Blackhawk movie? ANYONE?!
Couldn't we get him to direct a Superman movie? My god, he'd be perfect for that.
wtf?
Seems this is a passion project for Spielberg. He is a fan of the property and was eyeing Blackhawk in the 80's but nothing happened as he then ended up making Indiana Jones. He must be a real fan to be back for the same project after so long.

*Googles*
Nope, not a clue.

There is now speculation as to whether it'll be a tie-in with Wonder Woman. Like if Chief, Charlie, and Sameer join the team. I wouldn't mind that. Even just a cameo would be neat.

Do I have to remind summers8 that this is the same Spielberg who praised ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ above all MCU films?

Watch out for how the media is going to cover this news. there will be so much hate and negativity because they are scared. threatened. Ironically I was just talking to some mcu fans about artistry. I hope this explains it better. for all the hate DC gets by corrupt critics and bias Disney mafia media. real film makers will still flock to DC and WB. Snyder was the problem here. he is gone now. Bring on Reeves, Scorsese and Speilberg. and we know WB will never tell this men how to make their own freaking movies. No, it's just that Directors like Spielberg and Scorcese don't want to be tied to a bigger story. They want "One and done" stories with no connection to one another. The MCU's tighter plotting and bigger thinking storytelling is incompatible with that, while DC has no one willing to stand up to Directors who want everything separate. at least your avatar now perfectly matches your salt.

I love the idea of Spielberg doing a CBM on a WWII character. It could turn out to be a fantastic adventure film. It's Spielberg. Its gonna be good. I'm just saying, if you finally get Spielberg to work on one of your movies, do you waste him on Blackhawk when you have Superman and all sorts of other cool characters that need a top director like that to shine?

No you get him to do something that could be great, was not created by DC and will likely have no connection to the DCEU. Like Blackhawk. Rather than some superhero that anyone would do.

Spielberg's recent B-movie blockbuster efforts were not too convincing, especially Giant and Player 1. Also, I found these were some ugly looking films. Spielberg seems not a big CBM fan either.
Whatever, impressively, with Matt Reeves and Spielberg & Co DC seem to be able to engage some of the best directors.
Let's hope this leads to another defining genre highpoint, like with the abominable Schumacher Batman leading to the revered Nolan trilogy.

Although at least the western had some masterpieces.

I think that might be a good idea. Get away from the Supermans and the Iron Mans and the X-mens. Go more toward the Guardians and the Deadpools and the Blackhawks.

First Shazam and now Blackhawk. DC already adapting comics they "obtained" rather than created...surely they must have some of their own original properties to focus on. Still, it worked out OK for V For Vendetta.
If they keep it a period piece Spielberg doing Blackhawk sounds very promising.

Update from the movie's screenwriter and frequent collaborator David Koepp: "We have a script that’s very good and we all think it's very good. There were a lot of management changes at Warner Bros, so I think we’ve just been kind of waiting for that to settle down and for them to decide what they want to do with their DC Universe. Obviously I hope he does it or if he doesn’t direct it, I hope he produces it, someone great directs. Because it would be a great deal of fun. I’m very fond of the script and I hope it comes together. But again, that’s one of those movies that’s gonna need $200 million so, trying to get those whales off the beach is a big process." movieweb.com/screenwriter-gives-hopeful-update-on-steven-spielberg-dc-movie-blackhawk/
