Has anyone else viewed it? I just saw it for the first time (I will view it once more) and felt that it possessed great material, both in terms of labyrinthine intrigue and the fascinating geopolitics represented therein. Indeed, the potential existed for a very good movie and possibly even a classic of the genre, but various technical aspects—excessive editing, excessive dialogue, excessive closeups, and excessive jerky camera movement—undermined the film, causing it to be less engrossing than it should have been.
Beirut is still worth seeing in my view—"decent/pretty good" based on my first screening, with the overall film aided by a suspenseful climax.

I don't get why thrillers these days use MTV styles editing either. It's obnoxious.

Yeah I agree with the points you made, theres a great movie here somewhere, but its drowned by bad exposition and editing as well. Also wished a little more focus was placed on the demoms Skiles was fighting as well.

I liked Beirut better when I viewed it a second time—I considered it "good," as I was better adjusted to the technical style. But it is not the deeply memorable movie that it could have been, in part because the style is suited to an action film, whereas Beirut is more akin to a spy movie with only occasional action. Jon Hamm and Rosamund Pike are quite strong as the main diplomats, though, at once charismatic and credible.
