He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie finally(?) gets directors in the Nee brothers.
www.slashfilm.com/masters-of-the-universe-directors-nee-brothers/
Who are the Nee brothers? Who knows! The article goes on to make a point I've been making for quite some time, which is...
"...their hiring falls in line with the modern studio thinking of handing a major tentpole to a green filmmaker fresh off a successful indie hit. Gareth Edwards got Godzilla, Colin Trevorrow got Jurassic World, and Jordan Vogt-Roberts got Kong: Skull Island. If you’re optimistic, this means studios are taking an interest in promising young talents! If you’re pessimistic, this means studios are looking for fresh filmmakers they can more easily manipulate. Pick your poison."
I guess I'm pessimistic. Thoughts?

Let’s hope it’s better than the recent GI Joe and TMNT.
MOTU has a lot of potential. I hope it succeeds. Also writers are being considered for a MASK movie. Hopefully that gets made as well.

I didn't know that about MASK another IP I'd like to see make it to live action is Dino-Riders I think that could be something special. They just have to keep it far away from the quality of the new TMNT movies and give us some depth in the story telling.

But one season of 14 episodes probably doesn’t exactly put it at the top of the priority list. I think that what influenced the poor writing of the TMNT and GI Joe films is the success of the Transformers films. There the writing is marginally better but it set a template of dumb, broad based comedy and action cgi and it made a squillion. They discovered how loved these brands were that the films didn’t have to be written with integrity to be extremely profitable. Hollywood won’t get rid of a profitable formula until it’s run its course. TMNT (2014) was trash but made a nice sum. Same with GI Joe. We both know it’s not what discerning fans want, and the Hollywood people know it too, but profit is the objective.

I enjoyed the GI Joe movies. I'm surprised that they stopped at just two.

It wasn't just ninja action and jokes for me not when the original and sequel had some spectacular scenes like this. Yet they chose to write the new films without any substance.

I will always prefer Jim Henson's costumes to the CGI monstrosities from the new movies.

I will always prefer Jim Henson's costumes to the CGI monstrosities from the new movies. Well it seems everyone else agreed since they stopped after two of those movies too.
