the martian interstellar/arrival interstellar/arrival (I've only seen arrival once to make a proper decision) gravity (I kind of actually dislike it, feels as if relied too much on "everything must go wrong" to create drama)I really dont understand the love Gravity gets. it might be a theater film? i saw it on my tv, standard size, and it didn't wow me, so maybe that's it. also the computer graphics looked pretty decent, even though the helmets and suits look off.

wow, for once I fully agree with the poll results.
Insterallar is the clear masterpiece of the bunch.
Next is probably Arrival, which was very interesting, and close it is Gravity, which if not perfect, was still quite good.
The Martian I was very excited for, but ended up being a complete bag of manure IMO.

I understand why Interstellar is leading, but Arrival should be ahead of Gravity, IMO.

Although flawed, definitely Arrival. Why? A. Because it was made with a more adult audience in mind.

I would rate them in the order of their release: I found Gravity "very good" (one of the better movies of 2013), Interstellar "pretty good" (meaning less than a full-fledged "good," yet above-average), The Martian "mediocre," and Arrival "awful." I viewed Gravity in the theater once, Interstellar three times, The Martian twice, and Arrival twice (once on an Oscar pass).
I deemed The Martian the most overrated movie of 2015 and Arrival the most overrated film of 2016—and possibly one of the most overrated movies of all time. The fact that both of them received Best Picture nominations is preposterous in my view, but at least The Martian did not take itself too seriously until much later in the film.
Interstellar may well be the most ambitious of the four and the most intriguing—part of the reason why I viewed the movie three times in the theater was to try and figure out why it did not quite fulfill its potential. I am still not necessarily sure, but there are some nonsensical plot points and Anne Hathaway is totally miscast as a brainy astronaut. But the film is compelling on a visual, emotional, and thematic basis, especially in its sense of using the spatial and temporal aspects of outer space as an allegory for human reflection, regret, longing, and memory. Gravity suggests some of these same possibilities, but in its less ambitious, more pragmatic, 1970s-style genre-oriented approach (only with a mastery of modern technology), the film is less flawed and more consistent.

Arrival ; but all of them are overrated.
1.Arrival - 6/10
2.The Martian
3.Gravity - 5.5-6/10 (was a 6/10 on initial viewing but dropped off on a re-watch. i would not be surprised if it drops off even further once i see it again. but if it does drop off any further it will switch to Thumbs Down status since 5/10 and less is a Thumbs Down and a 6/10 and higher is a Thumbs Up on my scoring scale. so it's barely clinging to the positive end of the rating scale for me currently. but anyways... Gravity is at it's best when Clooney is on screen, which is not for all that long, and loses most of it's steam when he's not.)
4.Interstellar - 2-3/10 (could not finish it due to boredom)
for the record... Moon (2009) (8/10) is easily the top space themed movie in my mind as nothing else is even close.
p.s. i have seen The Martian/Gravity twice, both lost some of their appeal on a re-watch, and i have only seen Arrival once so far but i expect it to remain my #1 spot amongst the four movies. but obviously, i won't bother with re-watching Interstellar as anything i score a 5 or lower won't see re-watches as that's what ultimately makes or breaks movies in the long term for me is whether they are movies i want to re-watch from time to time or not.

I haven't seen The Martian yet, and I have no interest in seeing Interstellar ever. Gravity, I think , would have worked better as a 40-50 minute short, and Arrival was good, but it just fell flat in some places. But it did raise a very nice debate topic in it's twist ending, so I vote for Arrival.

Moon is excellent. If that one was in the running, It would easily be right behind Arrival for a very close second.

1. Gravity - the best of the four because it is consistent beginning to end, very entertaining film 2. Interstellar - most interesting and daring of the four but the scenes on Earth detract from the film 3. The Martian - enjoyable, predictable Crusoe on Mars 4. Arrival - easily the worst of these films, so glad the Academy did not give Adams a nomination for acting, though they did nominate the film itself, my least favorite film of 2016

How the fuck Interstellar is winning? It's the Nolan fanboys again? I like the film, but it's easily the weakest. Being in first place is just fucking ridiculous. Because compared to the other three, Interstellar was pretty good. But I voted for The Martian because it's just stronger than the rest.

Interstellar? Don't tell this board is getting overrun with Nolan fanboys?

All had their flaws, I thought, but 'Gravity' was the most compelling for me.
Gravity -- 8/10 The Martian -- 7/10 Interstellar -- 7/10 Arrival -- 6/10

I basically saw them the same way.

gravity. saw it in the theater, which is probably the only way it should be seen. not really interested in the rest. though the subjects are interesting. If you didn't see Gravity in the theater in 3D you missed one of the most amazing visual experiences ever.

Gravity.
The best I can say about the other three movies: I liked Damon's performance in The Martian a lot.
