Which companies of today might be defunct in 10 years?

Quite a number of articles that forecast the bursting of the retail bubble in the near future, especially those housed in bricks and mortars. Quite a few have now started closing some of its branches.

K-mart, for sure. Most of the K-marts around here have already been closed down.  I feel like it's starting to become a thing of the past, sadly.

Next, f.y.e. music store, the last time I was there, I saw a few sections in the the CD areas that had empty spaces, a far cry from how it was in the 90s.

Other than the mom and pop stores, I definitely see JCPenney converting to an online-only retail store like when Circuit City and CompUSA tumbled in the recession.

Somebody mentioned Kmart. They should have tanked a long time ago when Walmart started dominating several areas.

I also believe Radio Shack will bite the dust sooner or later. They charge way too much for electronics when you have a wider variety of options on sites like Amazon. They were useful in the 1990s for those hard to find parts, but how they're still operating is beyond me.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't pay anything for the 'complete saga' on Blu-ray -- the discs are the updated versions of the first three original films with all the fancy CGI changes to them!

I disagree...

I don't understand how anyone thinks it is a good idea to order perishable items like Milk over the internet from some yahoo in another state...

And then having to wait for days for it to be shipped through the mail in unrefrigerated UPS trucks, or paying some huge shipping and handling fee instead to ship it properly and fast... I doubt many people will want to do this...

And then what happenens if the food is bad, or is contaminated and there is a recall? As a customer good luck trying to deal with that by containing some website and not getting a response for days...

I don't think online grocery stores are going to succeed, as much as people think it will, when it comes to perishible items.

And what happens if you need to make dinner, and you realize you don't have a certain ingredient. It won't do you any good to place an order online, and have have it delivered the next day.

Brick-and-mortar grocery stores are not going away anytime soon, and they might as well continue to sell everything they have always sold...





I understand that is is easier to buy many products online, especially when it is a hard to find item.... and in many cases you fan find cheaper prices online...

But I don't understand this strong belief to completely abandon Brick-and-mortar retail to buy all products unseen.

For example, when it comes to women's clothing... don't women like to try on dresses, to make sure it fits, and that it looks good on them, before they buy? You can't do that with online purchases.

I know there are many things I like to go to the store and physically look at, before I purchase them. Online photos don't tell the whole story...


And what if you want or NEED something right then and there. You will NEVER get something shipped to you within "half an hour"! I have yet to see Amazon, offer any faster shipping than "Next Day". But most people can drive to a store, and buy a product, and get back home and use it, in less than a day...

No More Brick-And-Mortar Grocery Stores?

NOT SO FAST!








I don't see any indication that Brick-And-Mortar Grocery Stores are going to vanish from our neighborhoods in the near future...

However, There just might be fewer in the immediate area...


For most consumers, they still want to, or have to, go to Brick-And-Mortar Grocery Store to pick up their groceries!


In the meantime, you can save yourself time at the store... by ordering your items online at your store's website, before your go... or scan your grocery items as you shop, so you don't have to wait in line to have them scanned later...

In the near future, it seems that old fashioned cash registers with cashiers are going to be a thing of the past, in order for the businesses to compete and cut costs...





My only questions are...

1.) Will customers be expected to bag their own groceries as they shop?

2.) Will customers have to bring their own bags... or will bags be provided IN STORE, even if you have to be charged for those?


I hope I don't forget my own bags, while shopping at stores that don't provide them, because I really don't want to throw a lot of loose items into the trunk of my car... I don't even want to think about trying to get them out of the trunk and trying to get them into the house, one can at a time.
