Any players on?
It's amazing how a game can be so good and bad at the same time, imo anyway. Great visuals, as long as you don't get glitches (of which there are many). A good fighting system, as long as you don't mind the glitches (again, many). A nice open world, which seemingly doesn't work well with the story line. Decent enough characters, which get no backstory or disappear after one appearance. Sure, you can learn more about the world and characters if you buy the movie and watch the miniseries Brotherhood. Never played a game that required that before. It's absurd.
It took SE ten years to end up with this game, flaws and all. Can't say I haven't enjoyed playing the game though, I'm at 151 hours so far, and with the recent level cap rise to 120, I'm going to need to play quite a lot longer to reach that level. Still have a couple of super dungeons to finish, and as I absolutely hate fishing, I doubt I'll ever finish the Navyth fishing quests. It's nice that they're adding content even now, even for free, even if it's limited. (Timed quests are fun and have very good rewards)
The ratings for the game aren't bad, and it does have a lot of good points. Especially compared to FF XIII, the only FF game I've never bothered to finish. That one was horrible, no fun to play whatsoever.
I guess it's the story that bothers me the most. There's barely any in the entire game. Lot's of stuff to do, people to talk with, plenty of quests, but what exactly was the story? Certain parts of it felt recycled, even more than the usual with an FF game. So you're a construct, desperately trying to live your own life, never heard that one before. The entire twist near the end has been done a couple of times now, if not in most of the FF games. The story also barely progresses as long as you are in the open world. And as soon as you leave that part, it just flies by. The bulk of the story can be played through in a couple of hours.
Very enjoyable villain though, Ardyn was nasty, tragic and fun.
And let's not forget the Pitioss Dungeon. Or as I like to call it: 'Hell'. It took me about eight hours to get through, almost destroying my controller on multiple occasions. I've never cursed at my television before, but it only took about two hours before I insulted it as harshly as I could. I still hate that dungeon, more than any other zone/map/dungeon in any other game I've played before. It was awful, and I'm still not convinced the Hood is worth the trouble.
