Why won't the Avengers help the "irrelevant" people?

Lois knew the kind of person Clark was because she interviewed the workers on the rig that he saved, she interviewed many others who were helped by the mysterious bearded stranger. And she talked to Clark's mother. So she already knew a lot about the kind of person Clark is even before she met Clark and spoke to him. Based on all that she had learned, Lois knew that Clark was a good man and she could trust him.
