I have to disagree about the Omega Man. They took the story of I Am Legend and modernized it a bit to deal with something very real and dangerous (i.e. biological and chemical warfare). At the time, China and the Soviet Union were definitely not friends as Mao was going his own way with Communism which the Soviets did not like at all. There was a very dangerous situation that they could go to war. This is one of the reasons Nixon was successful in "opening" up China to relations with the USA. While this is just a backdrop to the story that actually takes place, the fact that Charlton Heston (i.e. The Omega Man) was a relic of a period of modernization that the "family" did not want to remember because they believed it led to the sequence of events that caused worldwide catastrophe was a great way to adapt the story of vampires trying to kill off the last real man on earth of the old breed. I actually prefer this film to the original story and the Vincent Price adaption. Something about Omega Man just seems more realistic actually. I could see how some people could indeed not die but become diseased due to a biological war. They definitely wouldn't become crazy Vampire type creatures. Another aspect of the film that I liked was especially at the beginning of the film where you see Heston go about the day to day routine of his life. Driving his cars, watching a movie, and talking to himself just to maintain his sanity. I think we'd all be in a position similar to this. When he's in the car dealership and sees the girl on the wall calendar you can just totally empathize with him that he's lost the one thing that humanity needs the most, and that is companionship.
