Not to be argumentative but I think you are underestimating the size of the 'Smallville' fanbase. James Marsters as Braniac was one of the most popular villains on the show and won awards for his performance. While Braniac was nowhere near as well-known and iconic as 'Spike' in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' it was very popular role and I can honestly say I don't know a single person who is a comic book fan or superhero fan who doesn't know who Braniac is thanks to 'Smallville.' 'Smallville' made a lot of lesser known superheroes and villains well known by being the first show or movie to have them on screen. The only reason we have an 'Arrow' is 'cause of the popularity of the Green Arrow on 'Smallville' and 'Arrow' was originally going to be a 'Smallville' spinoff show with Justin Hartley. When Green Arrow first joined 'Smallville' a lot of people just thought he was a knockoff of Robin Hood and didn't know who he was. The same went with Aquaman, Cyborg, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Doomsday, Darkseid, Braniac etc who a lot of fans didn't know of before the show.

Then we have Tempus in 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' - a show that was so popular in its first three seasons it was getting around 20-30 million viewers a week and slaughtering a LOT of other shows people now call the greatest of all time around the world. 'Lois and Clark’ was so popular Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher were often getting their faces on the front of magazines and newspapers and being voted as the most popular TV show and TV couple of the year. A lot of younger fail to realise how popular ‘Lois and Clark’ and ‘Smallville’ were since they aren’t old enough to remember but to put both were massively popular worldwide and got high ratings especially in their early years. Kevin Feige has even praised the success of 'Smallville' and said if it wasn't for that show keeping the genre alive the MCU and DCEU wouldn't exist.

Some of that I agree with. But you are talking about a different group of people. The fans of the genre of course know about Brainiac. But I was talking about the general public.

I mean...I watched every single episode of Smallville. It was a terrible show at times (Lana..ugh) but I stuck it out till the end. (I'll watch anything with Superman in it) I could be convinced that Tom Welling is the best Supes ever.
