I listen to a ton of podcasts. It's pretty much all I do while driving.
My current podcasts of choice:
This American Life - The gold standard as far as I'm concerned
It's Been A Minute - This is a standard current events on it's Friday Weekly Wrap (I don;t listen to the Tuesday one where he interviews someone) show that has the host, Sam Sanders, inviting other NPR reporters or guests on to discuss topics of the day. That part isn't too terribly special though the conversations really feel like a group of friends talking.
What makes the podcast stand out is the section about the best thing that happened to listeners that week and it is truly something special. It's about 3 or 4 minutes of the show, so if the show concept itself doesn't interest you, that section is always going to be worth fast forwarding to.
The Moth - One of the first and, in my opinion, the best storytelling broadcast.
Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me- The best comedy game show in podcast land.
Snap Judgement - A slightly hipper take on This American Life
/Filmcast - A movie review show. I usually don;t stick around for the review and especially after they get to their spoiler section. They tend to see movies immediately and I tend to wait. However, the first half hour talks about shows they watch and smaller movie review as well as news. The 3 hosts are able to joke around with each other and argue without taking it personal.
DLC - One of the hosts, Jeff Canatta (? I'm guessing the spelling), host this show and it's a videogame version of /Filmcast. I don;t have tme to play a lot of videogames, but the show is lively enough and keeps me up to date on the big stuff.
Embedded - On my way back from Florida this week, I started listening to this show. I listened to it last season, but didn't particularly enjoy it. This season has been all Trump and it's been pretty fascinating. It's not about him being the current idiot he is, but rather spends an episode discussing various ways he's been an idiot his whole life.
It is surprisingly neutral and kind of just let's that idiot's idiocy shine through his own stupid statements over the past years or interviews with the people affected by him.
The episode about The Apprentice is truly eye opening about him, his detractors, & his fans. I hated the show, so I never realized how popular it was.
An interesting thing they brought out is that they edited in the "You're Fired" part...At least for one of the contestants.
