Yeah I know I've made a few posts, but believe it or not I still haven't read anything on this site in the past few weeks to avoid spoilers. But I have been keeping track of some Ragnarok news and I'm excited as hell to see Thor on either Thursday or Saturday, or both hopefully. Did anybody catch Joss praising the fuck out of it? The word masterpiece is way overused, but he actually used it himself, which kinda says a lot. Waiti deserves all the cred coming his way.
But one thing I found very interesting today that I had to get your thoughts on is that Thor is now up to the 120-125 opening weekend range in terms of domestic tracking (and yes I get it's not the most accurate predictor), but that JL is down to 110-120. I've been very curious if JL's release date would do more to cut off Thor's legs, or if Thor's release date would do more to cut off JL's hype, and that's going to be really interesting to see play out 3 weeks from now.
But take a step back for a second, take a deep breath, and honestly think about the now very realistic outcome that Thor of all franchises might beat JL's opening weekend. Just mull that over for a second. I mean what does that say? I'm actually a big fan of the first two Thor films but I get the general consensus is that it's the weakest series so far in the MCU, and for that series to stand eye to eye with DC's crown jewel in the most direct head to head face off there has been, even with the amazing reviews Ragnarok is getting, says everything about where Marvel is, and where DC still isn't. And if Thor does beat JL's opening weekend, or even if it's close, Thor has an overwhelming positive buzz that JL can't possibly match, and I think it has to be said out loud, that gives it more than a fighting chance of winning not only the audience and critic reception, but also the overall box office.
Just sit back and take that in for a moment. You are living in a world where in 2 months you might actually be saying this,,, "Thor beat JL head to head both critically and financially." I mean,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, what?
