The Wii was a nice gimmick. It was the console everyone owned but no one played. Don't get me wrong there were song great games for the console. But you can say that for most consoles. Motion controls were really cool. I can't speak for the Sony side of things but The Kinect sucked ass. Continuing would have been a disaster for Nintendo. They did great early on in that console generation but at the end the Xbox 360 sold more. That makes it clear people gone past the motion control gimmick though Nintendo includes them in their games to this day.
The Wii U failed I think due to bad marketing. When I told my friends I got a Wii U they looked at my Wii and asked me where it was. They figured it was supposed to an add on to the Wii and I can't blame them. I thought the controller was okay. At least it was different from what Sony and Microsoft were doing.
And The Switch is awesome. Yeah the Joy-Cons are way too small. I normally use a pro controller. And the fact that you can take it anywhere is a big selling point for the system.
