They know they aren't going to sign him after the season, so they're getting what they can for him now. They anticipate Brady being here at least one more year so they had to do something. They'll obviously draft a QB at some point in the near future. Knowing BB, I could even see them draft a couple from the same class, have a duel. Manufacturing competitiveness. As for JimmyG, the 49ers situation may make his actual work ethic & play look worse than he is. At his age, I think he's more concerned about playing time than proving himself to Stephen A. Smith's of the world. Leaving the Patriots really only solidifies the Pats' greatness as a system. Charlie Weis, Romeo Crennel, Josh McDaniels, Cassel. Off the top of my head, Richard Seymour is probably the one guy who didn't stumble after he left.
