He is BY FAR the single most popular super hero of them all.
He's very easy to write compared to them, be adheres to very old traditions and archetypes compared to other superheroes and has a colorful rogues gallery that makes up for his archetypal nature. For a long time, this simple nature meant it was easy to do media adaptations of him, so by the time it was possible to start doing adaptations of others he already had a foothold thanks to his earlier exposure.
