Mad Max Fury Road was no remake it was a retcon sequel that ignores the third movie and it was great.
Ghostbusters, Poltergeist, Fright Night, Hitcher, Karate Kid failed miserably as they are proof you can't strike lightning in a bottle twice. Even GBs and Poltergeist flopped at the box-office and proof you need to leave a classic alone.
I don't see the point of remaking Gremlins (you just can't bet practical effects), Die Hard, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, Goonies as you can't strike lightning twice since some movies of the 80s are totally creative and all that made by talents you can't replicate.
Now Basket Case is one that can use a remake and so can CHUD.
Just find an unloved or unpopular 80s movie and remake it.
