"Short Wave" is one of my favorites, too. I used to watch it in reruns in the '70s on WPIX. While I always liked goofy little Kathy, and I had a childhood crush on Bud, Betty always irritated me--such a snobbish drama queen (was she the only sitcom kid in TV history who always referred to her parents as "Mother" and "Father"?) I just saw "The Old Days" again, with Jim and Margaret attending a costume party dressed up in their college clothes from the 1920s. Despite how cute they look, anally-retentive Betty is mortified by their outfits and, in her customary quavery, on-the-verge-of-tears delivery, tells them to their faces how ridiculous they both look. They end up going to the party in different outfits, just to make Betty happy because, as Margaret tells her, that's what really matters. Margaret should have told her to get over it, toots. No wonder she was always known as "Princess."
Margaret's accent always seemed a little out of place, though.
