Sorry. Superhero films have been around longer than you think Your precious DC heroes weren't the first. Those were low-budget serial movies and nothing like the big-budget superhero movies of today. Superman: The Movie was the 1st big-budget superhero movie (I think it may have had the largest budget of any Hollywood movie at that time). If Superman: The Movie hadn't been successful, then movie studios wouldn't have continued making big-budget superhero movies and the CBM genre wouldn't exist today and there would never have been any MCU. So the existence of MCU is de to the "artificial boosters" it got, 1st from Superman: The Movie and later from The Dark Knight. Films were more like that in those days. They were churned out as A movies or B movies & the bill was a cartoon, a serial, a newsreel & the double feature A & B movies.
