Much better? Lost in Space - not that it is a masterpiece of anything but far better than the very low expectations
Much worse? LOTR trilogy - I love the novels so much and I had such high hopes but they were dashed one movie after the other, it just cannot be a good sign when you end up rooting for Gollum and Saruman and Sauron because the 'good' guys are so annoying.
