No one is saying they sign him as a starter. The Mariners currently have a grand total of 3 OF on their roster. Gamel, Heredia and Haniger. Sign Ichiro as a 4th/5th OF/PH. Sign him right now. His presence can help persuade Otani/Darvish to come to Seattle.

He can retire as a Mariner, and if some good luck finally breaks the team's way, be part of their playoff team.
