Cats get most of their water from eating their prey in the wild, as they are desert animals.
Pinky are right that dry food contains a lot of "empty" calories, in the sence that cats don't need or should eat carbohydrates. They are not omnivores as dogs are, they are carnivores. Carbohydrates is the main cause for feline diabetes, unfortunatly even wet food contains carbohydrates. This is why I barf my cats (Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods), I don't serve them any carbohydrates at all.
The few carbohydrates they eat, is from what they steal, as the opportunist little things they are.
