You're suggesting that a society that seeks its own demise should be considered to be a functional one. I find that a peculiar notion.

And once again, it's only inconsistent if one begins with the premise that all societies are of equal value and that therefore the failure of any society is equal to the failure of any other. That may be your premise, but you don't seem to be able to grasp that it isn't mine.

Just seems a bizarre thing to care about to me. But I take your point that we can't really rationalise about what people do or do not care about.

In fact I think any sentient species being wiped out is a tragedy. But if say a war between humans and AIs were to happen 100 years from now and one side or the other had to be wiped out then I wouldn't really care which one - it's a tragedy either way.

I agree that it's a tragedy either way. But I don't believe the tragedies would be equal. And I think very few humans would.
