I haven't seen the movie, so I can't compare the two.
The cartoon has problems that any half hour animated series might have, especially if you're comparing it to a feature-length live-action movie, however I do think it's really good. Personally, it's my DC universe. I read comics sporadically when I was a kid, but wasn't overly familiar with any of them. When the show came along, I really got into it. It introduced me to a lot of DC characters and storylines, as well as delved deeper into both. I liked when they highlighted characters or storylines that I wasn't very familiar with. They did a really good job of balancing that with the big/main ones.
