I believe the word in question is who, as to be is a copular verb. That is to say, one would write, " who was the first accused..." and respond, " he was the first accused," not "whom was the first accused..." and "him was the first accused." Apologies for the pedantry, but I've noticed your correction of others' grammar in the subject line, RiP, IMDb, so I thought you'd appreciate a friendly tip.
