What was the second Batman flop?
Superman and Superman 2 did really well but then Superman 3 only made half as much. Superman 4 was a huge bomb that made next to nothing.
People are saying Justice League could lose a lot of money what with it costing $300 million and it looking to make a little over twice that much. So Superman Returns must have lost a huge amount of money considering it cost $270 million and it didn't even make $400 million. There was no sequel so that failed as well.
Man of Steel probably just about scrapped a profit.
Then you have Batman and Batman 89, Batman Returns and Batman Forever were all very successful, they each made opening weekend record and were amongst the most successful movies of their year.
Batman and Robin flopped but it still made a good amount of money. Batman Begins made almost as much as Superman Returns while costing about half as much.
The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises each made a billion, The Dark Knight also made the opening weekend record.
There's not much of a comparison at all. It's true though that Superman isn't particularly to blame for the joint movies though.
