If Williams is able to do IX and continue working for a few more years, I doubt Disney will want to take a break before starting X.

I hope that comes to pass.

Another option might be for Williams to remain as a consultant for the Episode IX soundtrack. Perhaps contributing some of the major themes and handing off the rest of the score to a, carefully chosen, successor.
