Too bad if it's a flop. It's a great film and a wonderful follow up to the original. I'm not a huge Ryan Gosling fan but he did a stand up job in this film. I think it could have possibly done better if there was a general short (1 or 2 day) release of the BR Final Cut a week or two before 2049 came out. Might have made some new fans. I was pleasantly surprised with this Blade Runner sequel and went to see it twice. Box office is not always the measure of an excellent and layered presentation. BR 2049, pretty much ticked many boxes for me. It might have been long; but none of it appeared like wasted and superfluous time. I totally agree with you. I was entirely captivated throughout the entire film. I wasn't a huge BR fan going into this, I enjoyed it, but the sequel made me love the original even more and I believe that 2049 will go down as a classic in its own right (and merits). Beautifully shot, and all of the actors (including Ford) were totally doing way more than just phoning it in. I've been critical of Ford in some of this latter films due to that feeling that he doesn't care all that much about the role he's playing, but in this film he was like he was from the 1980s.
