No it's not...at all. I'm not a fan but if there's one thing I can credit Mulan for is that it avoids that cliche trap quite well. It's hardly a cliche trap. It's literally the point of the movie. Girl power. Even her male comrades dress as women to save the day. Well, I will at least admit the point of the film is up for debate. On one hand, it's an adaptation of an interesting Chinese legend, one I'm pretty sure was never really meant to be about "girl power". On the other hand, all the unnecessary comedy is so distracting that it could almost lead one to believe the film was meant to be nothing more than childish entertainment. The real answer is probably somewhere in between, but Mulan's respectful and, yes, feminine treatment is enough to at least believe the film had no blatant agendas. If it was meant to, the filmmakers didn't succeed, but I'm pretty sure that the film's balanced, subtle approach to Mulan was what was intentional.
