Most of these are probably the reason why it flopped. However, I don't think Villeneuve isn't a big name director.
He may not be as famous as Nolan, but especially after last year's Arrival I think he has gotten a lot of attention.
Also, I'm under 30 and I care about Blade Runner and I know enough friends who also care. I think the main problem is more
that they expected everyone to know Blade Runner (like Star Wars) and blindly buy tickets, but forgot that a significant part of the general moviegoers hasn't seen the original.
