Maybe it's just me but i never understand how animated movies like that do boatloads of $$$. is it the kids that force their parents to go see those movies or something? because i don't know about everyone else but when i was a kid (say about 12-ish and younger) i liked animated things like Looney Toons etc but one i got into my teens or so that stuff lost it's appeal. with that said, i don't think animated movies suck, as Toy Story etc is watchable, but they just never (or rarely(i say rarely because Death Note (2006-2007) anime is the only exception for me)) have any re-watch appeal and that's where movies are ultimately made or broke. basically i generally avoid animated movies because they are pretty safe bets not to have any re-watch appeal for me. I'm with you, I don't get the appeal of animated movies myself...but you're right, the parents take their kids, thus upping the grosses. I don't have kids of my own, but sat thru a lot of them with my niece and nephew when they were growing up, and basically had to endure every one of them...including some of the "classics" like Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo. I just didn't think they were anything special, certainly not to the extent that so many adults were praising them. They were cartoons, nothing more.
