Looks like we pretty much mirror each other here as I can't find a single thing there that I even slightly disagree with.
but it makes me wonder how many of those 'adults' who seem to praise those animated movies actually like them as much as they say they do?
because i think a quick way to filter out the BS with someone is when looking at all movies a person has seen what's the movies that stick with them the most and they re-watch here and there as the years pass etc. because i never understood someone who says a movie is great only to never re-watch it or rarely re-watch it as the truly great movies stand the test of time and can be re-watched here and there as the years pass while still getting solid enjoyment out of them. movies that fail there are nothing special as that's how i ultimately judge movies is in two categories, which are...
-5/10 or less = Thumbs Down (won't re-watch(with rare exception)) (NOTE: 5/10's while generally decent enough for a viewing are ultimately not movies ill see again which puts them apart of the Thumbs Down category for me)
-6/10 or higher = Thumbs Up (will re-watch here and there as the years pass)
but with that said... movies i give a 7/10 or higher are what i consider My Favorite Movies which currently contains 196 movies out of the 2,150+ total movies i have seen.
p.s. but who knows... maybe animated movies amongst 'adults' are one of those things you either potentially like a lot or not much at all. but for me i just don't see the high appeal of them as the last time i really got into cartoons i was probably 13-ish years old tops as much beyond that i just generally avoided them. sure, cartoons i used to watch when i was a kid might be nice for nostalgia sake but i doubt ill like them anywhere near what i once did when i was a kid.
I'm with you, I don't get the appeal of animated movies myself...but you're right, the parents take their kids, thus upping the grosses. I don't have kids of my own, but sat thru a lot of them with my niece and nephew when they were growing up, and basically had to endure every one of them...including some of the "classics" like Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo. I just didn't think they were anything special, certainly not to the extent that so many adults were praising them. They were cartoons, nothing more.
