bravomailer C-Rations / MRE's = same gourmet meals in different packaging ? MRE's had those chemical "heaters". The little hand wipes were sometimes the most appetizing thing included. I had many, many C-Rations but got out of the military well before the introduction of MREs. I wonder if anyone who's eaten both could weigh in on which is less revolting. The ham and lima beans were widely thought to be the worst C-Ration ever made. There was often a hard piece of chocolate in C-Rations which was affectionally called the "John Wayne Cookie" because only the Duke could bite into it. That video was great, thanks for sharing. I've often heard about how bad the ham and lima beans were. My uncle was over in Vietnam around '67/'68 and told me about some of that stuff. Interesting that the crackers and cigarettes/gum/coffee was still good. I guess there really isn't anything in them that could get contaminated or moldy. I've had some surplus MRE's back in the late '90s. The corned beef hash looked disgusting but heated up it was actually pretty good. The rest were okay, nothing terrible that I can remember. The ones with chicken in them were a little funky but not bad. They all came with a little mini bottle of Tabasco sauce that made the difference.
