You're not really proving your point. You're actually proving flauss point more. Wouldn't this be just as irrelevant but more relevant than box office?

Also remember critics are more forgiving these days. The remake was shitty and featured a creepy Willy Wonka that made you feel uncomfortable he was around kids.
The "creepy" Willy Wanka makes the film far more interesting and I love the Michael Jackson comparison. I don't find him creepy I just find him sad and lonely and he finds happiness through the main kid and his family at the end.
The original lacks style and Wanka is a very dull character in it.
I don't care what critics think or like. The remake is better because it is more emotionally engaging, more visually creative and more entertaining.
I agree that BO numbers has nothing to due with quality and is a bad argument though. I also think imdb rating and RT score is a bad argument too though. The remake has 200 more critic reviews than the original, so it isn't a fair comparison
Gene Wilder's performance is nuanced and his Wonka manages to be scary, poignant, hilarious and brilliant sometimes all at once. Depp just acts like a pedophile. You're right. The Depp version having a lot more reviews means the film is actually rated much higher than it should be.
The fact you find Wilder's Wonka dull and the original lacking in style invalidates your already (nothing personal) ridiculous "argument".

In the internet age, any millennial with a laptop can call herself a "critic" and millennials tend to worship any remake or reboot or regurgitation spewed out during their lifetime. Conversely they hate films made before they were spawned. Out of curiosity, would you happen to be a millennial? The other kid that agrees with you is obviously a millennial. Not that you're all bad but...........
What it comes down to is, I like a Wonka that is testing kids to find an eventual heir and family to keep making his wonderful candy. You like the Wonka that lures children into his factory, murders most and their parents and then tries to trap his "favorite" with him alone and make sure the child never see's his family again. Click on the Cracked article that another poster provided above. It's spot on and funny at times if a bit too long.
Good day Sir.
