Cape Fear is better than the original imo but I agree that Evil Dead and Assault on Precinct 13 are vastly inferior to the originals. I actually think the fact that Nolte's character is morally questionable gives the movie a much needed edge. and with the exception of Mitchum the acting is far better in the remake. I also think the concept works better in a more campy style.
Fair enough. I think the Cape Fear remake is better up until the final act. De Niro is too over the top at the end and the whole "speaking in tongues" bit is so silly it derails what could have been an excellent remake. I may have been wrong by saying the original for Cape Fear was VASTLY superior.
