I thought Risen was such an odd, interesting twist on the Jesus story. Glad I'm not alone on that movie. And yes, please please please give me a movie from Pilate's perspective dealing with this crazed fanatical cult living in the desert obsessed with this revolutionary hippie called Jesus. A biographical film about Pilate would be an interesting spin on the Crucifixion. It would make a fantastic flick. It wouldn't even have to be a biopic, just a legal drama focusing on Jesus trial and the weight on Pontius Pilate's decision. No stakes here, only the bedrock of Western civilization for the next two millennia. I almost feel like it would be rejected by audiences on both sides of the religious debate. Atheists would think it was promoting Christianity while some Christians may feel it humanizes Pilate too much. In my opinion, for the movie to be done well Pilate has to come across as a sympathetic figure on some level. |
