Inspired by Matthew the Swordsman's thread on John Hughes, I'd like to post this poll about one of my favorite directors, James Whale, an excellent filmmaker who has (unfortunately) been more or less underrated in evaluations of '30s film. ( This article at the Australian auteurist website "Senses of Cinema" points out how Sarris's classification of Whale as "lightly likable" actually damns him with faint praise.) Anyhoo... What say you? He's best-known for the horror films, but nearly all of his works have genuine quality. You may choose up to three.
