2015 is too soon... I'll go since 2010... & most of my picks are good yet overrated together...
The Arrival - I agree, though it does fall into an overrated yet solid film for me. I only went thinking there'd be much greater payoffs than introspective ones. I rated it a B+ yet ppl gushing over it like it was going to change my life... not so f'n much. Birdman - again, I liked it enough on merit. Nice execution of the production/performances, alas there's simply not much there there. I blind bought it mere weeks after its Oscars, $5 in a bin at the grocery store, dvd- not a bad deal that. Dunkirk - I feel like this is what we get when Hollywood fails, very good films like Dunkirk are made out to be all timers. Wonder Woman - uh huh. It'd not make my top 10 of the genre & yet it's defining the year. Am I evil? I didn't pay to see JL & that was because of BvS. It was on par with Captain America: The First Avenger. Was that one an all timer? Nope. The Hobbit - yikes. Precious critics pun intended afraid of upsetting the PJ Middle Earth karma... it took its sequels' lack of magic & lore to finally accept that it was a rush job we could do without.
