I probably could come up with different lists depending on how i look at things whether it's based on IMDb rating etc or how much $$$ a movie made in the theaters or Oscar stuff etc.
but just to use IMDb's Top 250 to select five movies i would go with (IN NO ORDER) paired a bit with $$$ made in theaters as this should give me a solid overrated list...
-Dunkirk (2017) (I found this movie to be quite boring, as i could not finish watching it due to boredom. but it's got a 8.2 average on IMDb and currently #130 in the Top 250 and not only that it also did solid $$$ in the theaters as the worldwide total was $525mil+)
-Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) (a pretty average/forgettable movie overall. but has a 8.1/10 average and made $378.9mil worldwide)
-Logan (2017) (a pretty average/forgettable movie overall. but has a 8.1/10 average and made $616.8mil worldwide)
-Hacksaw Ridge (2016) (i mildly like this but it's nothing special. it's got a 8.1/10 average score but in terms of $$$ it's not that overrated as it only made $175.3mil worldwide which is nothing special in the $$$ dept. so i would say out of the five movies i listed it's the least overrated of the bunch, but still overrated.)
-La La Land (2016) (i mildly like this but it's nothing special (while i have only seen it once so far it's the only Musical i gave a Thumbs Up). it's got a 8.1/10 average score with $445.7mil worldwide and Oscar hype BS and it's no where near THAT good.)
NOTE: there is currently fifteen movies from 2015 to date in the IMDb Top 250 and i have seen six of those.
NOTE: i am just excluding animated stuff as i don't really count these as legitimate movies as i see that stuff more for kids than adults. also, i imagine there is some movies i have not seen that could make the list above had i seen them.
p.s. i would say the cream of the crop level movies from 2015 for me are (IN NO ORDER)... Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation (2015)/Spectre (2015)/Shot Caller (2017). behind those (IN NO ORDER)... Ex Machina/Good Kill/Sicario/Some Kind of Beautiful/The Salvation/The Hateful Eight. those are the only movies from 2015 to date i scored a 7/10 or higher.
